An Open Letter to You, Esteemed Power Companies – Savon Voima, Fortum, Helen, and Whoever Else is Out There
There’s been something nagging at me lately, and I figured I’d bring it up with you fine folks over at the power companies. You see, you offer this so-called green eco-electricity, and anyone can apparently buy it from you. But here’s what’s been bothering me—how, exactly, do you make sure that this eco-electricity actually gets delivered to the specific house that ordered it?
Because, as far as I understand, electricity flows through the same power lines from one town to another, from house to house, right? So what’s stopping that sunshine- and wind-powered eco-electricity from accidentally ending up at the wrong address?
Now, don’t get me wrong—I haven’t personally signed up for any of that eco-electricity. But over the past year, I’ve noticed some… strange occurrences at home. Every time I open the fridge, there seems to be more and more vegan food, organic fair-trade vegetables, and who-knows-what-else. And I keep hearing that we should “avoid unnecessary driving” and “make greener choices” while shopping.
So naturally, I’m starting to suspect—has some of that eco-electricity somehow slipped into my household’s outlets? Because, let me tell you, every time the women of the house sit down with their phones or laptops, they come up with more of these eco-friendly ideas. Could they, in fact, be getting exposed to green electricity?
So I’d really appreciate it if you could double-check your delivery system and make sure that the eco-electricity is actually going to the folks who ordered it. I don’t know whose electricity has been making its way into my home, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it might belong to Jorma from over in Tahiniemi—he’s been all in on that green movement, after all.
